In August, MIID, with help from the Department of Fisheries (DoF), conducted training for Fish Farmers in Hakha Township in the Chin State. 20 fish farmers from different villages participated. The first two days of training were classroom-based, and on the last day, the fish farmers were exposed to practical training in the Tlangzar Hatchery Operation Site.
This training aimed to increase the fish farmers’ basic knowledge of good aquaculture practices, to enable a strong relationship between DoF and the farmers, and to strengthen the DoF’s capacity to reach out to the communities. Through the training, the fish farmers also obtained more confidence in operating their own fish farms.
Farmers gained basic aquaculture knowledge, such as proper feeding practices, site selection for fishpond construction, and the proper way to maintain a healthy environment for fishpond operation.
