As one of Myanmar’s top tourism destinations known for its pristine landscape, the Inlay Lake Region is now challenged with finding a critical balance between economic development and environmental conservation.
The thrust of this project was to understand the current situation and changing trends of the Inlay Lake Region as they relate to tourism, the environment, the economy, and the social sphere. The integrated approach to understanding this unique region required primary and secondary data collection, and extensive consultations with stakeholders ranging from government to tourism companies to community members.
As a culmination of the project, MIID aided the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism in the production of a series of reports including the Destination Management Plan for the Inlay Lake Region 2014-2019, a collection of Project Proposals supporting the Plan (Total package of projects is approximately 7.3 million USD), a Discussion Paper on Options for Destination Management Organization, and a Tourism Survey Report on the Inlay Lake Region.
